WonHundred Word Wednesday

Prompt: As the policeman pulled back the sheet, she knew immediately…

morgue

What I wrote:

As the policeman pulled back the sheet, she knew immediately that nothing else existed, or mattered anymore. She felt his eyes on her, pitiful creature. Death didn’t look as expected. Not like the live people painted dead on TV. Not like the person would wake up. Her father no longer looked like himself. His mouth open, his tongue thick and poking just a bit out. And so white. So dead. Making her head move to a nod took all her energy. Then the officer moved to the next sheet. She nodded again, mother. Each sheet more painful than the last.

Check out the other great stories! And come back each Wednesday for a new prompt.
