WonHundred Word Wednesday

“In all the years I’ve lived here, I have never once called this place my home.”

In the school yard, the world hung coated in grey. The skies
leaked silver tears onto the pavement. Plants in circumscribed boxes lined the
walls.

Renee tipped her head up to the kisses from the skies. Inside her heart
churned. The arrest was coming, it had not been made.

School was not safe. Home
was not safe, and even once it was, her heart was not safe.

“In all the years I’ve
lived here, I have never called this place home and now it will never be home.
It can never be safe.” Tears mingled with water, soaking into her flesh.
